According to Dempsey (2020), it is difficult to study. If you’re a college student or a freshman in high school, keeping focused while learning is a struggle we always face. If it is social media, procrastination, time management, or a mixture of all three, we’ve got a range of strategies that can help you relieve pressure and remain focused on what matters most.

The issue is that there are so many distractions nowadays that we’ve unconsciously conditioned our minds to be unable to focus. Many of us are battling the internet like never before because we are learning online and lacking the inspiration and pressure that comes with in-person learning and communication.

So, how can you keep focused on one task when you have so many other, similarly important things fighting for your attention?

Here are some ideas that I’ve considered to be useful:

1. Find a suitable environment.

The area where you study is more important than many people realize. Concentration can be increased and learning sessions can be more effective if you study in an atmosphere where you feel at ease.

2. Create a study ritual.

Rituals boost our confidence, give us a sense of comfort, help us cope with loss, and reduce stress.

3. Block distracting websites + apps on your phone, tablet, and computer.

The Internet can be a very distracting place. When a viral video or post appears on your social media feed, all productivity attempts may be lost because of the internet.

4. Divide up + space out study sessions.

It’s easy to get distracted by the amount of knowledge to remember while preparing for an exam. The majority of study-related tension is triggered by poor planning and time control, which contributes to stressful cramming the night before.

5. Use the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro strategy is suitable for breaking down your study time into manageable chunks. It’s easy: pick one job to work on, set a timer, work until the timer goes off, and then take a break.

6. Find the best tools

Getting the right methods will make all the difference when it comes to bringing your studies to the next level.
